I have purchased the entire series of this book for the exams. I am using them in conjunction with the Kaplan study material. I found all of the extra information unnecessary and really only use the question and answer section for preparation. This series does a good job with the practice questions focusing on a more code based approach which I have found the Kaplan books lack. Together they seem to give a good balanced approach to studying and have successfully gotten me through the first three exams.Product details

I read this book after having already studied significantly for the exam, and still felt the helpful graphics and clear step-by-step instructions to be valuable. If you are just starting out for this exam, this book will prove an invaluable resource for navigating the online design tools and deciding how to approach each vignette. The design methodology and technical guidelines are extremely clear -- welcome advice to get through these punishing exams.
My congratulations to Gang Chen for dissecting the process of design for this exam. His creative, analytic, witty tools provide a methodical manner of approach exactly needed on the exam. Every one has their own process (we are designers after all), but there are "ah ha" moments that are worth your time investigating and incorporating. Thanks again for your hard work, it is a gem to all of us!

This book was really helpful and the author really seemed to care that the user passes the test.
The only problems The book references an NCARB practice test that is no longer available from the download website. Also the author's name and title lends itself to revealing the problems experienced by architects-to-be before the user has used the guide. The author also failed to recognize N.O.M.A. as a governing body of architects alongside the A.I.A. and N.C.A.R.B.
Nonetheless, the guide is easy to read, easy to follow, careful, insightful, well-priced and is a sure-win purchase for passing the particular version of the test.
Not worth the price that they are asking. I decided to use Brandon’s, Dottie’s, and Alkikat notes for this exam. This book has too much redundancy of information that you do not need. Next time save ink and paper and focus on the SD exam content rather than giving us information about requirements for licensure, architecture degree and job outlook etc.
I used this book exclusively in my Schematic Design Exam preparation. Gang leads methodological approach of what it takes to come-up with a passing solution. The mock exams for the Interior and Building Layouts were very similar to the actual test. This gave me confidence to proceed and succeed in taking this exam. It it the best resource on the market for the money and is affordable.
